GLENCOE CAPITAL ACQUIRES CHILD DEVELOPMENT SCHOOLS, INC.
Firm Sees Growth Opportunity for Preschool Education and Early Care Provider
(May 29, 2006) Glencoe Capital LLC today announces its acquisition of Child Development Schools, Inc. (CDS).
Headquartered in Columbus, Georgia, CDS is the sixth largest for-profit preschool education and early care provider in North America. The company has grown from five schools in 1992 to 138 schools located in mid-sized cities in seven Southeastern states.
CDS was founded in 1989 and focuses on three primary educational segments including preschool readiness, childcare, and after-school programs. The Company's schools provide affordable, age-appropriate educational, social, recreational and nutritional programs to approximately 14,000 children at ages ranging from six weeks to twelve years. CDS schools operate under the "Childcare Network" name and are principally freestanding sites in suburban communities.
"CDS is unique among private preschool education and early care providers in its focus on programs for at-risk children," said David S. Evans, Chairman of Glencoe Capital. "The company has a proven acquisition strategy and in conjunction with Glencoe Capital will have the resources to extend its high-quality educational and childcare programs to more communities in the Southeast."
"CDS has developed expertise in partnering with federal, state and local agencies in order to provide working parents with access to high quality educational and childcare services" said Scott Cotter, President of CDS. "We understand the regulatory and educational requirements and have a proven track record of providing a rich environment for children to learn and develop. Our primary purpose is to ensure that the preschool-aged children that we serve are prepared for future success in school."
To accommodate working parents, CDS schools operate five days a week throughout the year, generally between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and provide transportation for students to and from elementary schools. All of the Company's schools accommodate children by age group and have complete classrooms, recreational areas and outdoor playgrounds. Facilities typically range from 5,000 to 7,000 square feet and have an average capacity of about 130 children.
