NOVO 1 LOOKING FOR QUALIFIED CANDIDATES
HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- If you still think no place in Michigan is hiring, then you haven't applied to NOVO 1.
Since the call center opened last September in Holland, the number of workers has grown from ten, to hundreds. "Our human resources people tell us they're tired," joked Holland Site Director Patrick Blanch. "I would say that we interview between 75 and 100 people a week."
The center now employees 250 call center workers. Blanch says this is just the beginning of plans for an even greater expansion.
"I would like to hire at least 50-people a week," he said. "We're looking for 100 more employees. We have a some part time work, but primarily, it's full time."
Equity firm Glencoe Capital acquired NOVO 1 about 18 months ago. Glencoe CEO David Evans says since then, there's been a concerted effort to higher as much as possible, especially in Holland.
"We did a search and identified Holland as a great area. We would fully expect to be at 300 people by the summer. That's a year ahead of plans," he said. "Quite honestly, as our business expands, we're looking to expand from there."
Evans says it's the area's pool of happy, healthy applicants that typically come with a "neutral" midwest dialect. And, he says, the area's core of spanish speakers doesn't hurt.
But Blanch says lately, there has been a lull of qualified candidates. "We try to be really selective. Typically, we don't turn anybody down, they turn themselves down," he said. "Maybe working on the phone isn't their cup of tea."
"We are looking for people who are good, warm, friendly, genuine, midwest folks who like to help people," Blanch continued. "And they should sound that way on the telephone."
